Down to the Wire

This has been a crazy summer. Please take a look at my Blog if you get a chance, I am adding and revamping. Does anyone know where in the HTML script the Polling element is? I tried to add it but the script has an internal error and I need to delete it. The site suggests doing it through HTML.
Thanks.

The New IdeaList Update!

I just put an update up, in which I struggle with the concept of summer versus cyber. Yes, they both start with the same consonant sound, and yes they both end in "er", but oh the world of difference between the beginning and the end:)

The #1 Wiki & My Blog

Just a message to everyone to please come and visit. We need your feedback. The academic section of our wiki is moving along slow, but will be complete soon. Please post a general; comment. We appreciate your feedback.

The #1 Wiki(Please Comment)

Also, please visit my blog and argue with me. I am a little under the weather today, and there is nothing like a debate to cure the common cold. I will introduce interview responses from an Amish man I met in Indiana, Pennsylvania the other day. I asked him to explain why the Amish reject our culture and ideaology, and our discussion later shifted to their rejection of technology and their non-maximal lifestyle choice.

This discussion will be used only to show the other end of the spectrum. In other words, there are some who swear by technology and others, such as the Amish, who reject it. What can we learn from them?

This topic should be posted by 8pm Eastern.

Hi . My name is Jeremy Earnheardt, no relation to Dale Earnheardt. I drive slower than most elderly people and often get passed by people twice my age.

I have been blogging on myspace for years, but most of the information I post is related to modern recording technology and gear reviews for those who are interested. I have posted personal information and even tried to start some small groups discussion, but typically, in this instant gratification American society, people want you to disclose personal data and then they jump on to the next Joe to find out about their idiosyncrasies. I do appreciate the value of educational blogs no matter what the topic. As long as the information posted can satisfy my hunger as an information junkie, than it is all good.

I recently have viewed blogs about repairing vehicles and have found through credible sources that many shops and mechanics can and do take advantage of those who don't understand their vehicle. So lately I have learned very much from bloggers and information sources over the web, and ultimately, they have saved me very much money.
I enjoy these forums and hope to talk with all of you on at least one occasion.

Thanks for any responses you can give and let me know if you have a good source for a low-cost fuel pump for a Jimmy 2000.

Take care,

Jeremy Earnheardt

Finally Here...

Okay, so I've finally joined the class blog. I'm still not big into this whole blog scene. I guess the more that I blog, though, the more I will enjoy it. Only time will tell.

A Doosey of a Post

Hey, just put my second post up at the New IdeaList (http://www.thenewidealist.blogspot.com), and I thought some of you might be interested to weigh in on its "controversial" subject matter!

Also, there's a link to a great database of articles concerning computers and technology in the classroom, so at least check that out. It's astounding!

thanks, and hope to hear form you!

Blogging... Not as bad as I thought.

This is my first post on a blog ever. I just created my page and it wasn't too bad. I really enjoy the artsy side of blogging. I love picking colors and adding pictures. As for the actual typing, not so much. That's probably why I've never really got into blogging. My friends that have kids all blog. I have to say it's nice to visit their blog sites and get a quick update.

This class blog is an excellent way to get to know the members of this class. It's nice to put a face with a name. Well I look forward to working with all of you. Enjoy your summers. I can't believe it's half over :(

Comments please...

So here is my blog. It will soon be ready for further comment, which I invite you all to do! Thanks!

Embracing my blogside!

Like everyone else, I want to post my first ever blog site, http://embracingmyblogside.blogspot.com.
However, I also wanted to ask a question. How did you pick blogsites that made you want to keep returning to them especially from publishers that are strangers? I'm assuming that is a plus to some people, but it is hard for me to put any weight into what is posted by a stranger. Doesn't it take some time to try to figure out the publisher's perspective or where he/she is "coming from"? As I'm typing this, I'm feeling more and more like an old "stick in the mud." However, I am trying to keep an open mind to all the technological possibilities I'm being exposed to thanks to this class.

The New IdeaList

Well, it's definitely a work in progress, but my blog is up and running. It's called The New IdeaList, and although I'm starting it for this class, I hope some of you will help me keep it going beyond that. If it works the way I'm hoping, it will become a forum for teachers and students alike. In the meantime, there's a poll up on my blog about blogs and the classrooms, and your feelings thereof. Please at least chime in on that, as I'm interested to see some results! This is my first blog, so this will definitely be a learning experience!

The address is: http://thenewidealist.blogspot.com/

Hope to hear from you, and I'm excited to start checking out everyone else's!

Come blog away, come blog away with me...

I know that's pretty bad, but don't hold it against me. Come and visit my blog anyways. It's a work in progress, and I'm starting to get into it. www.bj-holameanshello.blogspot.com/

My blog

Hello, this is an invitation to join my blog at:
http://myprofessionalblog.blogspot.com

Hi everybody!

Like many, this is my first blog. It's much easier than I imagined. The first time I had ever heard of a blog was only a few months ago. The computer/communications teacher at my school has been encouraging teachers to participate...I had felt a little intimidated and really never got around to trying it. I think it's a great tool for getting information or opinions out and discussion going. I also like that you can also post pictures.

My Blog

Hi everyone! Feel free to check out my Bio Blog--

http://ejfbioblog.blogspot.com/

New kid on the blog.

Well, this is my second experience with blogging. My first is checking my daughter's friends' profiles on MySpace. I like to know who she is in contact with. She is more technologically savvy than I am because she excluded me from her exclusive friends' list -- I need a password.

Perhaps one of you can help my bypass this barrier.

Truthfully, I strongly dislike sites like these. (O.K. I HATE them.) Since the onset of MySpace and Facebook, etc. I have seen more "cat-fights" arise as a result of postings. Also, many of these profiles are very provocative. I believe these sites provide young adults the opportunity to participate in and spread at a fast rate visual gossip. Furthermore, the consequences are detrimental.

As you can read, my blogging experiences are limited; however, a positive educational experience would be a nice change. I am looking forward to alternate uses for blogging.

HI!

Hi everyone! Like many of you this is my first time blogging, and I'm excited to learn more about using blogs in general and in the classroom. Thanks John! Nice Fish by the way.

Bloggers One and All

Although I have been aware of Blogging and its potential, I must admit that besides posting to other peoples blogs, I had not created one until last month. While at NECC in June, I participated in a workshop dealing with various methods of online communication, including Blogging. It was the first time that I actually "had the time" to devote to the creation of my own Blog. Now the trick will be finding the time to devote to regular entries! I would love to have the teachers at my school take up Blogging as a way to share and enlighten others. However, we have the same issues as many other schools, and that is NO BLOGGING ALLOWED! I am curious to hear how many others are in this same boat. I am also interested in those that have overcome this roadblock.

Me? Blogging? :- )

Hello everyone! I am beside myself!!
This is my first time experience with blogging--ever. I've read ones from friends, but never thought I'd ever try this...I even selected a template for my blog home page when signing up today for a new Google account. Who knew?
Thanks John for helping me to strengthen and flex my cyber muscles!
Andrea
Good afternoon.
I'm really glad we're being introduced to blogs. A teacher I subbed for created a blog for her class to discuss a novel they were reading. When I was in for her, I was amazed at how engaged her students were with the blog. It was a tool they really related to. I promised myself then and there that I would somehow incorporate a blog into my future classroom. While I do use MySpace, I've never really been one to write a blog-I think maybe I'm a bit intimidated by them? I do, however, enjoy reading those of my friends...;)

Captain's Blog: Stardate...

I'm really excited to dig into this aspect of the class. Many of my friends and family seem to be into the blog and livejournal phenomena, and I must admit I keep up with many of them by following those sites. I have often considered starting my own, but just don't know if I have the time to be consistent with it. Whay I'm hoping for here is to see some ways that blogs can become more than just "online diaries", but can extend into more academic and professional pursuits. I know those blogs (and blog collectives!) are out there, and I'm excited to begin learning more!

-joel
This will be different for me. In school blogs are viewed as a no-no, particularly MySpace. The kids sneak and log in anyway. I've seen some horrible, foul, expletive-filled stuff on MySpace, so I guess you can say that I haven't really had any good experiences yet with a blog. If I want to use it in a professional sense, I'll have to see past that somehow.

I think I get it now...

So a professional blog can be used as a personal/professional website - a homepage that has many difference facets to explore and is more complete in information. I am still not wholly convinced by this statement however :)

Hello All!

Well, at least now I'll know what all the students are talking about now! I've been invited into many facebooks and heard about myspaces, but never really paid too much attention to them, I must admit. I always figured it was an expression of teenaged angst in 2000.... I suppose they are a more public way, though in an odd manner often more personal, of communication. Professionally they could perhaps be used to post assignments and have group discussions with classes. How this differs from a massive group email I am unsure...

My first blog post

I have never used a blog before. I never had an interest in them, so I never checked them out. This is a new experience for me. What exactly is a professional blog?

Welcome to our blog!!

Hello and Welcome!
I'm John McCullough, your instructor. This is a sample blog. Currently, I am teaching two online courses... ED 517 and ED 620. This week, and this week only, both classes will be working on Blogs. Therefore, you may be sharing posts and comments with folks in your class or in the "other" class.

For ED 517 and ED 620, you will create a professional blog using Blogger. The main purpose of this Blog will be to provide some insight into possible uses of Blogs in your future professional career.

What are Blogs?
A blog is described as an online application used to share personal expressions, in some ways like a diary. It is similar to having a web page but much easier to create and more personal. Blogs can also be used to link to resources and communicate with others through various features of the application. You will have an opportunity to explore some examples of blogs in this module that will help you to better understand their capabilities.

Why Use Blogs?
Blogs help students to make connections with one other and the instructor as well as provide them with alternate media to express their learning experiences. Blogs also provide the students with opportunities to write and reflect on their learning.

That's all for now. Add comments if you choose, but definitely explore the Blogging Phenomenon!

~ your prof, John
